While cleaning my desk today…

I found this Main Street photo of my hometown in Burke, South Dakota. I wanted to create a parallel universe of sorts, playing with the way our memories fade and shift.

This photo was taken way before my time. However, because of family stories and photographs, it’s somehow familiar to me…even with a vintage wallpaper sky and a black and white tiled road. I didn’t get too far in my cleaning and sorting project. Oh well, the mess will still be there tomorrow.

    • Lisa Lillibridge/Dakota 1966 – I grew up roaming and scavenging the plains of southern South Dakota. That childhood landscape instilled a desire for spaciousness that's stayed with me into adulthood. My work often reflects these themes.

I will check out Fairchild’s poetry. Thank you for the reminder of the Moody Blues reference. Days of Future Past captures what I was attempting.

  1. Mary Francis McNinch – The good old USA – We are Kip and Mary McNinch. We are parents of four, proud of our 8 grandies, and 3 great-grandies. The Murdo Girl blog started as a way to let family and friends know what we were experiencing on our first RV trip. We have since traveled over 10,000 miles. The posts evolved to include true tales about growing up in the small town of Murdo, SD. You will also read stories of some of my more recent life experiences. So far I have 65 years of living to tell you about (12/31/16). It's mostly fun, funny, and light hearted. I hope you enjoy reading about some "feel good" memories and other "stuff."

My family is in Burke—only eight miles from Gregory. Do you have family in the area?

No. We knew a Lillibridge family that lived in Gregory. My mother was good friends with Marce. She and her husband, Laurell lived in Murdo for a while. He was a banker. When he died at age 36 of a heart attack, Marce moved to Gregory for a while. Her mother and a brother, Hal lived there. I’m not sure if Laurell was from there.

Of course, that was before my time and I forgot they lived in Gregory. Marce was married to great uncle, Laurel—my grandfather’s brother.
