hacking my lacking art education…

Yesterday I placed Google’s ART MOVEMENTS as the first item on my browser (link below). Visiting & studying this site must be better for my soul than reading the news.

As I hack my art education, I’m going to create or curate work(s) in the style & order the movements appear on the site. I’ll skip some movements, just like I skip rooms or floors in museums that don’t interest me.

Here are my first interpretations.

1. Contemporary art (1980- ) is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Diverse and eclectic, contemporary art as a whole is distinguished by the very lack of a uniform, organizing principle, or ideology. —Google Arts & Culture

2. Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. —Google Arts & Culture
3. Romanticism (1770-1850) Though hard to define precisely, it essentially involves: 1) placing emotion and intuition before (or at least on an equal footing with) reason; 2) a belief that there are crucial areas of experience neglected by the rational mind; and 3) a belief in the general importance of the individual, the personal and the subjective. —Google Arts & Culture

4. Renaissance (1300 - 1700) Though it has applications elsewhere, it is most often used to refer to that era in Europe, beginning approximately in the 14th century, in which a new style in painting, sculpture and architecture was forged in succession to that of Gothic and in which, in a broader cultural sense, the transition from the Middle Ages to the modern age was made. —Google Arts & Culture

PLEASE NOTE: The images that look like paintings are photographs of mine that struck me as possessing the palette, composition, and theme I wanted to portray.
