where is my heart today?

We all are a bunch of contradictions.ย  Itโ€™s hard for me to admit that this is trueโ€”every part of me wants to deny this about myself.ย  I would rather have elective dental surgery than investigate this further.ย ย Actually I need some dental surgery, Iโ€™ve been putting it offโ€ฆanother contradiction.

I did this quick check today to noticeย my noticing.ย

Good grief!

DAMN.

I stared at the words I wrote that are entirely at odds with each other.ย

bitterโ€”grateful

lovingโ€”rage filled

curiousโ€”certain

openโ€”closed

Can I actually hold all of these contractions at the same time?ย

YES.ย  I can easily throw all of these messy, contradictory emotions into my bag, grab my keys, walk out the door and go on with my day.ย  We all do it all the time.

NOTICING is helping me understand myself a little better.ย

I have a lot of emotional work to do
AND I donโ€™t really want to do it.

LIFE IS AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF GREY AREA.

BLACK & WHITE thinking can make us rigid, limiting available options.

Just ask my kids, well, no actually please donโ€™t.

Head or Heart.ย ย Winner or Losers.ย  Right or Wrong.ย

This just isnโ€™t the way the world works.ย  When it does, things can fall apart.

ย

I came across this website todayโ€ฆinteresting: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN.

โ€œโ€˜Believingโ€™ means that you have chosen a truth, but โ€˜knowingโ€™ means that you are certain about that truth.โ€ย  ย

I had to read that line about ten times.

link: difference between knowing and believing

link: difference between religion and faith

AND JUST FOR FUNโ€ฆ

link: difference between casserole and hot dish

Good luck with your noticing.

Beware of this brain glitch.

The way our brain equates repetition for truth.

YOU ONLY USEย 10 percent of your brain.ย

Crime in the United States is at an all-time high.ย

ย

NONE OF THESE STATEMENTS ARE TRUE.

They FEEL TRUEย because of repetition.ย

Crazy, huh?

โ€œSlogans should be persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward.โ€ย ย

โ€”Hitler inย Mein Kampf

โ€œBut the facts donโ€™t actually matter: People repeat them so often that you believe them. Welcome to the โ€œillusory truth effect,โ€ a glitch in the human psyche that equates repetition with truth. Marketers and politicians are masters of manipulating this particular cognitive biasโ€”which perhaps you have become more familiar with lately.โ€

After I read this, I wonderedโ€ฆ

What can I do if I notice my brain is on autopilot?

Pinch myself?ย  Snap a rubber band on my wrist?

ORโ€ฆ

Seek more sources to confirm or dispel my TRUTHS?

Let me know if you come up with a trick.
