reworking discarded pieces

Today in the studio I needed a board of a certain size and I didn’t want to run out to the hunt for one.  I started digging around and realized that I could easily part with this piece from 2008 that I never really liked anyway.  The new piece isn’t finished yet, but I worked with the shape and carving that already existed in the board.  Oh, I do love a makeover.  Hopefully I can show you the finished piece tomorrow.

untethered & untitled

PROCESS: This hot air balloon piece is titled, “untethered”.  Here are pictures of four stages of my creative process.  This is very time consuming work and challenging to create so many new pieces in just a few weeks.  It’s a lot of waiting for the last layer to “cure” before I can sand, carve and seal.  I love every part of the process and there is so much discovery in each piece I create.  This work is very meditative for me.

I am hanging the show this Thursday at an amazing vegetarian restaurant in Burlington, Vermont—Revolution Kitchen.
